I’ve tried something out for you – A trip to Celtic Mont-Saint-Vincent (EN)
I’ll count to three. Ready? One… Two… Three. Now, close your eyes. Listen to the wind and feel its pure and powerful air whispering to your ears the sweet melody of this Celtic capital, built around the 4th century B.C. … You’ve just arrived in Mont-Saint-Vincent !
Everything is calm and appeasing, the surroundings seem infinite and one breathes like one has never breathed before… as if time had stopped.
This village is about that. A family resemblance with Ireland, small roads letting some grass settle, stone houses and edifices, and Celtic songs that are still resonating across fields.
A place lost in time and space, where you’ll get lost on an afternoon!
Now, let’s find out more about a few key places of the village…
The belvedere: a capital of Burgundy, from where one discovers 14 departments and sometimes even the Mont Blanc. It was once the site dedicated to the Celtic fires, whose tradition continues around St John’s Eve; and later the belvedere welcomed a windmill one can still find traces of, such as the inscription above the door saying ‘God bless my mill’.
The greenery theatre, ‘Les bancs de pierres’ (‘the stone benches’): this greenery theatre is located in a magnificent place, and possesses the most beautiful backdrop for the musicians and other artists who’ll come perform, i.e. the panorama of the Mont Blanc chain.
The medieval garden: this space recreates with authenticity the quintessentially Middle Age garden, where there are crops of medicinal, utilitarian, tinctorial, maleficent and aromatic plants, without forgetting Marie’s plot that is filled with flowers, and the vegetable garden. The whole thing is located in an exceptional place, from where one discovers the Morvan chain.
